Here’s why we do what we do…

Henry made me the happiest bride of 2015!

No, I didn’t marry him but let me explain. In April Henry was recommended to me by my physio following rotator cuff repair surgery I had in February. His initial focus was rehabilitation of my shoulder but when I mentioned that I was getting married in less than three months and that I wanted to be fit and toned by then Henry said no problem. I wasn’t entirely convinced as there seemed to be so much to do and due to the surgery I was unable to perform any upper body exercises. I shouldn’t have worried - Henry set me a series of exercise programmes that would increasingly build up my muscle mass and reduce my body fat. Henry always explained the science behind the programmes/ exercises which kept me motivated, refined my technique as required and gave me dietary advice too. The end result has been that in 10 weeks I gained 3% muscle mass, shed 5% body fat and dropped 9kg. I actually thoroughly enjoy going to the gym - I’ve never felt fitter, stronger, been more toned all over and generally motivated. I also felt and looked amazing for my wedding in July! It hasn’t stopped there and I’m now pushing over 130kg on the leg press! Who knew this was possible - well Henry did and I’m sticking with him and can’t recommend him enough.

Henry was recommended to me by my Osteopath before I was due for a second total hip

replacement.

During the pre-rehabilitation before my operation Henry did some fantastic work and helped me reduce my hip pain, increasing strength and improved my ability to move. With my first hip replacement I did not do any work beforehand, the difference after the second operation was night and day, the recovery process was much better and quicker than the first one. I am currently doing my postoperative rehabilitation with Henry. His well-designed program helped me to get back to my normal life and work commitments. I would recommend Henry to anyone who is thinking of getting an operation or who has an injury of any kind.

I was experiencing pain in my hips and after talking to my doctor and a hip surgeon I’d decided to have a THR.

Through a recommendation of a friend I found Henry van der Walt. I saw Henry once a week for 3 months and he was fantastic to work with. He carefully showed me specific exercises to prepare my body and helped hugely with motivation which enabled me to strengthen my body and especially my hips. I would recommend Henry whole heartedly and I will look forward to seeing Henry again in the near future.

I worked with Henry for two years, during which time he taught me a huge amount about how to train effectively and safely. 

His knowledge of bio-mechanics was far superior to other trainers that I have used in the past.  We worked a lot on flexibility, on core strength and on all round fitness.  He varied the sessions each time, which made them always enjoyable.  I rarely felt that we had done too much in each session, but I always knew, within 24 hours, that we had done enough to make progress.

I have been training with Henry twice a week for 5 years now. I cannot fully explain what a positive effect training with Henry has had on my well being.

I had pain in both my hips and in my lower back this meant I was becoming less mobile and my weight was increasing! I did my research and found that Henry was a highly qualified personal trainer. He  has worked with me to correct all the issues I had, I am now pain free, fit, strong, healthy and dropped 2 dress sizes. This has changed my outlook on life. I was diagnosed by a Consultant in 2011 with a tear in the meniscus of my right knee, that needed an operation according the consultant and furthermore told I will not be able to run again, which was a real knock for me as running is a bit of a passion for me.

I saw physiotherapists to treat the knee to see if it could help but had no noticeable effect on the pain I experienced in some respects it irritated the knee even further. Henry’s name was given to me by one of my colleagues and I decided to give him a go, which as it turns out to have been a very good idea. I have been training a couple of times a week with Henry and with his expert knowledge of biomechanics and injury mechanisms the pain in my knee has not given me any problems now for a couple of months now. I have gradually started running again pain free; during the runs and afterwards which I thought a couple of months ago I would never be able to do! Henry has been one of the best decisions I have made for myself and the sport I love! I would recommend Henry to anyone who is looking for someone who is looking for someone to help with their rehabilitation or to take their training to a higher level and get the maximum benefit of their training!
